The Makerere University AMR Club is a student-led initiative at the Ugandan university, aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by disseminating knowledge within the student body and the wider public.

We are dedicated fighters with a mission against resistant microbes. We are students whose purpose is to educate everyone about Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR) in the most accessible manner while driving research , inspiring behavioral changes and advocating for policy shifts. We are the Makerere University AMR club.

During her presentation, Dr Mackline delivered a brief overview of antibiotic resistance, exploring its origins and the various factors contributing to AMR. Additionally, she emphasised the impact of antimicrobial resistance on the healthcare sector, from its associated costs to the implications on the health and wellbeing of healthcare workers.

Throughout the session, Dr Mackline highlighted strategies for controlling AMR and implored the attendees, as future doctors and pharmacists, to exercise responsible antibiotic use and prescription practices. She emphasised the importance of raising awareness about the dangers posed by antimicrobial resistance to both individual health and the broader healthcare system.
