Strengthening Capacity, Driving Change: CAMO-Net Fellows Present Stewardship Innovations and Impact

On 4th December 2025, at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, CAMO-Net fellows participated in a dissemination meeting that marked a major milestone in the CAMO-Net Training and Capacity Strengthening Programme. The meeting brought together fellows, mentors, investigators, representatives from Wellcome Trust and from all sites and hubs, to reflect on progress made over the course of the fellowship and to share emerging results from projects addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) across diverse global settings. Each fellow was allocated 15 minutes to present their work, highlighting current project status, preliminary findings, capacity strengthened, and future career trajectories beyond the fellowship. The breadth and depth of the presentations demonstrated not only strong scientific rigor, but also clear real-world impact.

The CAMO-Net fellows’ presentations showcassed how their projects spanned a broad yet cohesive range of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) priorities, from technology-driven innovation to context- and behaviour-focused interventions. Fellows showed how they developed and applied digital, diagnostic, and genomic tools to support stewardship, including AMR data platforms, transmission modelling of multidrug-resistant organisms, and diagnostics to guide optimized antibiotic use. Complementing this, several fellows showed how their projects examined antibiotic prescribing, misuse, and consumption across hospital and community settings, implementing behaviour change and quality improvement strategies to reduce irrational antibiotic use. Collectively, the fellows’ projects demonstrated a continuum from data generation to practical stewardship action, with fellows strengthening local capacity, mentoring healthcare workers, developing AMS programs and embedding sustainable AMS practices within their institutions.

Beyond project outputs, fellows reflected on the extensive capacity strengthening embedded within the fellowship. This included formal training in leadership, ethical research conduct, data management, behavioral change science, and implementation research. These skills were clearly translated into practice, with fellows mentoring multiple sites to implement systematized antimicrobial stewardship programs, strengthening local ownership and sustainability of AMS interventions. Importantly, the dissemination meeting underscored that the fellowship’s impact extends beyond individual projects. Fellows are now actively supporting stewardship activities at their home institutions, mentoring colleagues, and embedding evidence-based AMS practices into routine care. Fellows will convert their fellowship work into peer-reviewed manuscripts, ensuring that lessons learned contribute to the global AMR evidence base.

The meeting concluded with appreciation for the mentors, CTH support staff, Wellcome Trust, and the fellows themselves for their commitment and collaborative spirit. As the fellowship phase draws to a close, the work continues, through sustained mentorship, ongoing stewardship activities, and forthcoming publications. We look forward to reading the full manuscripts and to seeing the long-term impact of this exceptional inaugural cohort of CAMO-Net fellows.
